Welcome to the website for 2nd Ashton-on-Mersey (North) Guide Unit. This site is mainly for the girls and parents currently linked with our Unit. We encourage girls and parents to keep an eye on this site where we publish (under the activities section) details of what's planned each term and the badges and Go-For-Its we're working towards. We sometimes give girls the chance to vote on this site (e.g. for what film they want to watch on Film night) and if plans change or last-minute opportunities come up we'll put a news flash on the home page. We publish photos (where we have parental permission) and reports of evenings and events the girls have particularly enjoyed so parents can see what everyone is up to and Brownies thinking of coming up to Guides can see what we're about.
We've got a vote going on right now for names for the new leaders. Here's your chance (just like Big Brother) to vote off your least favourite name! Don't vote for your favourite - vote for the name you do not want any of your leaders to be stuck with! The technology is playing up a bit at the moment though - so you'll have to ignore the question about which trip you want to go on! Instead, just imagine it says "The name I don't want to be calling any of our leaders is..."
We'd love to hear from past Guides and Guiders and are planning to publish some of the activities that have worked well in our Unit just in case other members of the Guiding family might be browsing for ideas.
A special hello goes out to Guides and Guiders we met at Centenary events last year! 2nd Ashton were involved in Party in the Park, Alton Towers Camp, Guide Get Away to Italy and renewed our promises at the 2010:2010:2010 event in the Trafford Centre. Most of the Unit earned the Adventure 100 badge.
Who we are
We're a big Guiding Unit with 4 adult leaders, 4 young leaders and around 30 Guides aged between 10 and 14. We have been meeting at St Mary's since 1934 (possibly even before that) and are linked with a thriving Brownie Pack. We do have a long waiting list so if you are interested in joining Guides then please do put your name down with us as soon as possible!
What we do
We try to get as much variety into our weekly programme as we can, with a mix of games, craft, cookery, outdoor adventure activities and at least one camp a year. Every year we try and do at least 2 badges and Go For Its as a Unit to help girls work towards their Challenge badges. We also ask that the girls attend the Rememberance Day and Harvest Festival services at St Marys.
